Into The Hideous Hidden
2018 . Cecilia Hillström Gallery . Stockholm
Martha Ossowska Persson’s new set of paintings are representational only up to a certain point. When we are confronted with the fear of the other inside of us they become abstractions. I think about Ellen Ripley when in Alien Resurrection she becomes aware that she is in fact carrying evil inside of her and it will grow to destroy her and everything around her and yet she has to love it. Be it.
Ossowska Persson has painted what looks like fingers, beautifully rendered and disgusting in their scope. Water colours who through their very medium already are the liquid and smeary inside of our bodies, intestinal and somehow shocking in their vulnerability. A reminder of the infinite space we inhabit but fear to acknowledge.
